Furnace and wall heater repair in Los Angeles

Closet, attic and garage furnaces, and wall and floor heaters.

Same day when you call by noon. Open 7 days, 7am to 8pm.

On a gray morning a technician kneels at a wall furnace in the hallway of a Spanish-style house while the homeowner watches from the next room with a cup of coffee

Los Angeles uses its heat for a few months a year, so a furnace can sit from April to the first cold night and show its fault then. Some houses here heat with a wall or floor furnace, others with a forced-air furnace tucked out of sight. We repair both kinds, and heat pumps too.

When to call us about your heater

  • The thermostat calls for heat and nothing happens
  • The flame comes on, then dies after a minute or two
  • Clicking at the furnace, again and again, with no flame
  • The pilot on a wall or floor furnace keeps going out
  • The blower runs, but the air from the registers is cool
  • A loud thump when the burners light

If you smell gas

Leave the furnace and the switches alone. Get everyone out of the house and call the gas company from outside.

A dusty smell is a different thing. The first time the heat runs in the fall, dust that settled on the furnace over the summer burns off, and the smell fades within the hour. If that dusty smell is still there after the first hour, call us.

Both: the price before we start, and a year on parts and labor for each repair.

The usual faults

Igniter

Newer furnaces light with a hot surface igniter, a small element that glows before the gas opens. When it cracks with age, the furnace tries to light and then gives up.

Flame sensor

It tells the furnace the flame is lit. Once soot coats it, the furnace shuts the burners off a few seconds after they light.

Pilot and thermocouple

Wall and floor furnaces, and some older central ones, keep a small pilot flame burning. When the thermocouple beside it wears out, the pilot will not stay lit.

Safety switches

These stop a furnace that runs too hot or whose vent is not drawing. They trip for a reason, often a blocked filter or vent.

What changes the price of a heating repair

  • The failed part, and whether it is made for your furnace or needs a universal fit
  • Where the furnace is, from a hall closet to a unit set into the floor
  • How easily the burner area of a wall or floor furnace comes out for service
  • Whether that part needs ordering

Questions about furnace repair

Is there anything I can try before you come?

Make sure the thermostat says Heat, with the setting above the temperature of the room. A central furnace has a power switch nearby that looks like a light switch, and it sometimes gets turned off by mistake.

The filter matters in winter too. One packed with dust can leave the furnace running hot until it shuts itself off to cool down, over and over.

Do you repair wall and floor furnaces?

Yes. We clean around the burner and check the pilot and the gas control before repairing what has failed. When one is past repair, we tell you so, with the reasons.

Would a fall visit have caught this?

Often. The fall visit cleans the flame sensor, checks the igniter or pilot, changes the filter and tests the safety switches before the first cold night. No visit catches every fault, but the common ones get a look. More on tune-ups.
